Letter Study Time!

~ The alphabet is another foundational piece of our Begindergarten World. The children are immersed in meaningful letter study and provided with enjoyable hands-on alphabet awareness activities each day...

We enjoyed a week of overall alphabet fun focusing on one of our favorite stories, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!
Now we are doing more intensive letter study with weekly themes for each letter, beginning with "Apples and Alligators" for Letter Aa:

Fun with Our 4th Grade Friends

Once upon a time there was a 4th grade teacher named Mrs. Moore. She taught in Room 205 at Washington Elementary School in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Many, many years ago, she had a student in her class named Emily Ryan. Mrs. Moore loved being Emily's teacher due to her caring heart, friendly personality, happy spirit and determination to succeed (to name just a few). Emily told Mrs. Moore she wanted to be a teacher someday, too. (Mrs. Moore knew she'd be a GREAT teacher!)

Well... Emily is now Mrs. Stamp, an amazing 4th grade teacher here at the very Washington Elementary School where she went as a kid. (YEP! Mrs. Moore is THAT old!) Mrs. Moore is THRILLED to be teaching alongside one of her former students (and favorite people!) She's even more thrilled to be her "buddy class"! :) Each Friday morning, our two classes pair up for a fun learning activity. This varies from math tub exploration to poster projects. Here are a few photos of us with our 4th grade friends...

Meet Some of Our Families

Begindergarten Open House 2017

~ It's always so fun for a teacher to step back and watch his/her students in the spotlight! Open House night is one of those times for me! I so enjoy watching these proud five year olds show their families around their new classroom, taking great pride in their new "home away from home" for the next nine months. I always like to take some family pictures at Open House. So here you go! Not everyone could make it, but a big thanks to all of you who could attend. It was great seeing you!

I LOVE OUR BEGINDERGARTEN FAMILIES!

Listening Ears Abound!

~ One of the essential skills worked on in Begindergarten is being a good listener. I'm sure you noticed the big ears that came home earlier this year! (It was hard to miss them!) We teach the children how to be "whole body listeners" which involves the following:

I encourage you to use the same language at home! (I'll send home a copy!) It's amazing how using common language between home and school can reap such great results! :) Here are a few of us in our "listening ears":

C is for Castles

In addition to building our big box castle, the children also enjoyed building castles out of smaller boxes, blocks, and other hands-on  ma...
