C is for Castles

In addition to building our big box castle, the children also enjoyed building castles out of smaller boxes, blocks, and other hands-on
manipulatives, too...

B is for Bountiful Boxes in Begindergarten!

Oh, Boy! Boxes, Boxes Everywhere!

One of my absolute favorite themes during the year is that of "boxes"! Some think I'm crazy to put up with the mess, but you just can't beat the joy that a simple box can bring to a child! :) Although the fun with boxes is now carrying over into our "Castles" week, here is just a sneak preview of the fun we've had thus far with letter /Bb/ and boxes:

It all starts with this book, Not a Box by Antoinette Portis. This book sparks our imagination about the endless ideas for what boxes could be! We read this story a few times and even made puppets and acted it out...

Then we drew some of our own ideas...

After brainstorming what things we could construct out of our massive pile of boxes, we picked our first project:

A ROCKETSHIP!

First, we made our individual plans to share. These plans have been bound into a book and can be viewed at conference time.

Then the construction began... It involved A LOT of thinking and teamwork!

Then we built a boat to sail the ocean blue...

We had fun with a marble maze made out of boxes, too!  :)

And at last... we built our Begindergarten Castle...

And a BIG Thank You to Pizza Palace for donating boxes for our Begindergarten Memory Boxes!!!

Clearly... Boxes are the

BEST!!!
